Sparrows carry mites. They are also one of the few birds who engage in dust bathing. They can also be known to be scavengers. Sparrows attack bluebirds. They raid their nests and destroy their eggs and offspring. I am sure we have all been "swooped" by a sparrow while out doing yard work. So lets see, they are dirty, they carry bugs, they are mean and they are scavengers and yet Our Father still watches over them.
I an sure we have all been mean at some point and we get dirty in our sin. We may even hurt or harm other people with our words and actions. But the Lord still cares for us deeply. He takes care of all our needs and wants. He protects us and is always there when we call. As Matthew 10: 29-31 says He cares for us more,( 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. )
The song has a whole new meaning to me. We can never be too dirty or mean for the Father to not take care of us.
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
